How To Make Decopauge Decorated Wooden Hangers
So a few months agone, I picked up a bunch of wooden hangers at the thrift store and whipped up a neat ornamentation for my front door. It was lovely and looked great on my front door, but since I just have ane front door, I had a lot of leftover hangers.
A lot.
Oh well, I tucked them into the bottom of my craft chiffonier and forgot all nearly them.
Until.
I twenty-four hours, final November, I was on line at the store - you know, waiting in that maze on the way to the register where they pack all that stuff you don't need, just inevitably walk out with anyway?? - and I saw the prettiest wrapping paper.
Correct away, I thought, wow, that would make the prettiest hanger.
And so for $ii.99, the curl came home with me.
Now. Before I go started with the DIY, let me answer the obvious question...the same question my husband asked me as soon as I told him about my idea.
"Why do you lot demand pretty hangers?"
Of class, the obvious answer is, "Why not? Shouldn't everything exist pretty?"
Unfortunately, that doesn't usually get me very far. So I elaborate with the practical answer which is in a small domicile (originally a tiny summer cottage) like ours, storage doesn't always take place behind closed doors. Sometimes things need to be kept right out in the open and if that's the example, I would like them to be as attractive every bit possible.
Unless of course he wants to move to a larger home. Or start renovating and adding more closets.
Of a sudden $2.99 sounds similar a bargain and he responds with a simple, "Love, you lot're pretty."
Which is really only code for I am sorry I even asked and tin I go at present?
Poor guy. Never had a chance.
At this point I'm already reaching for my supplies, so allow's go started, shall nosotros?
I began with a pile of hangers, wrapping paper, scissors, a razor bract and a container of Mod Podge.
I chose hangers that had flat surfaces so they'd be like shooting fish in a barrel to encompass. Some hangers are arched to proceed the shape of a jacket. Those are much more difficult to piece of work with.
I don't practise hard.
The process is elementary, but you need to piece of work slowly or the decoupage gel can go goopy and tear your paper. I generously applied the gel with a foam stamper. Then I laid the paper over information technology, pressing down with my fingers, firmly and evenly.
One time it was dry, I trimmed the wrapping paper down to the exact size of the hanger with scissors and a razor blade. I used the same process here as I did when I made my magazine book page hanger.
When the wrapping paper was cut perfectly to size, I applied another coat of Mod Podge over the acme of it to seal information technology onto the hanger. Once everything was well coated I put it aside to dry.
The procedure can exist repeated on the other side. Or not. Up to you.
To add together a picayune flair, I added a twine bow at the base of the wire claw.
That's it.
I concluded upwardly with very pretty hangers that can exist useful in the closet or out.
Fabulous.
Forget the doorknob to catch that coat, here'southward a decorative hanger instead.
How most waiting for those towels to dry out?
They don't have to await messy slung over a bar or the shower rod. Now they can be part of the decor.
No place for a hand towel in your tiny space? Or perchance you're having guests and want to leave fresh towels out for them, but there's no extra room in your tiny bathroom?
No trouble, your pretty new hanger can fix that.
Thank goodness.
I'1000 bluntly amazed that we have gotten along so well, for and then long, without them.
Clearly they're a necessity.
Wouldn't you agree?
